About the School Business Professional apprenticeship

What are school business professionals?

School business professionals perform a crucial role which is unique to schools. They provide administrative, financial, HR and governance support and help towards the day-to-day running of schools.

Often working closely with senior leadership teams, school business professionals can work in various school settings and often juggle a variety of responsibilities.

They help to ensure that public funds are used effectively within their school, and in a way that enables children to reach their potential.

School business professionals must also have a good understanding of educational policies and be able to implement change.

Who is it aimed at?
Typical job titles include school business manager, HR manager, finance manager, office manager, school administrator, business support officer and bursar.
About the apprenticeship

Our Schools Business Professional Level 4 apprenticeship is designed to support learners in their schools, providing them with the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to be a success.

The qualification may also be used as a stepping stone for those aspiring to a senior or strategic role in the school business profession.

Covering finance, procurement, human resources, governance, risk and ethical standards, the apprenticeship aims to equip learners with a wide range of relevant knowledge.

Learners also have the opportunity to learn project management and communication skills, to enable them to become decision makers and leaders within their schools.

Adam Doherty, National Account Manager School and Educational Trusts at Ixion part of Shaw Trust, said:

“We’re pleased to launch the School Business Professional apprenticeship which we hope will help schools and professionals to upskill.

“School business professionals perform a unique role, often covering a variety of responsibilities, and this apprenticeship is designed specifically with their roles in mind.

“For schools, the apprenticeship offers a cost-effective method of creating a learning culture, upskilling staff or filling a skills gap.”
