“We need more women in construction to reflect the society we live in. Women use the spaces, so they should be building them too.”

– Women in Construction.

About the programme

Less than 1% of people working on tools in the construction sector are women. Places for People wants to change this by delivering a unique training programme where young women interested in starting out in a career in trades are empowered with the skills and support to progress and enter into sustainable employment.

The specialist programme features inspirational Q+A sessions with women industry speakers and mentor support during their work placements to learn and practice skills with the Places for People maintenance and repair teams in Derby, Edinburgh, Huntingdon, Leeds, Milton Keynes and Preston.

Successful candidates will progress onto a Level 2 Property Maintenance Apprenticeship or be supported into further training or employment opportunities.

Debi Marriott-Lavery, Group Executive Director – Affordable Housing from Places for People says: “We are delighted to be a part of Women into Trade, partnering with the Positive Transformation Group and Women into Construction.  We are committed to working with our partners to break down the barriers which prevent women from pursuing trade roles. Being part of this enables us to drive forward much-needed change for women in the industry, as well as developing the diversity and skillset of our workforce, supporting our vision to build sustainable communities that work for everyone.”
