“I wanted to raise the profile of careers and importance of a collaborative approach to be embedded within the school.”
– Bebe Woo, Careers Lead/Vocational Inclusion Manager at Calthorpe Academy
Bebe Woo says:
“I just want to say a great big thank you to Alison and Michele for all of their support through the whole process and journey! You are both true champions to careers and your passion for it really shines through (we will never forget both your faces when talking virtually to our learners).
The reason why Calthorpe wanted to obtain the award was because we wanted an external mechanism/body to evaluate our careers education and practice within school. In addition, I personally wanted to raise the profile of careers and importance of a collaborative approach to be embedded within the school. I found the whole process very reflective! The eBooklet to collect evidence was clear and informative.
Alison’s first assessment was extremely useful to me in terms of setting expectations (and boy did she – but in a very supportive way!). Alison made me understand how to see and gather evidence in a more systematic way – I have transferred these skills just this week! The assessment day was vigorous and allowed leadership and I to identify steps forward and action the gaps recommended by the experts. Both Michele and Alison have led by example.”
Calthorpe Academy is a 2-19 special needs school in the centre of Birmingham. Aside from the newly obtained Quality in Careers Standard, it has received the prestigious IQM Centre of Excellence award, for its continued work around Inclusion. In addition, the Academy has achieved the Music Mark award for its commitment to providing high-quality music education. The Academy continues to keep its Quality Mark for English and Mathematics, in addition to the Primary Science Quality Mark (Gold Award).
