About the Apprenticeship Awards

The National Apprenticeship Awards were designed to recognise the achievements of exceptional apprentices, apprenticeship champions and apprenticeship employers.

The awards recognise apprentices who have used an apprenticeship to boost their career and make a positive difference in their workplace. They also give businesses the chance to showcase best practice.

Michael's story

Michael, a Senior Advisor for Shaw Trust, achieved a distinction in his Operations or Departmental Manager Level 5 Apprenticeship.

We caught up with Michael for a case study interview earlier this year, when he talked to us about his role for Shaw Trust, and how the apprenticeship helped him hone his management skills.

“As people, I believe that we are constantly developing and learning new things. The Operations or Departmental Manager Level 5 Apprenticeship was a natural progression to improve my personal development and learn new things that will benefit both myself and Shaw Trust in the work that I do.

“I would say that I have always been approachable in my role, but now I am able to self-reflect on my performance as a manager and the impact my decisions may have on the team. “
