Adult Care Worker Apprentice in Peterborough

To complete an apprenticeship in care, working alongside experienced staff, with a view to providing care to customers to maximise their independence and choice, participate in their community and support them to monitor their health and wellbeing.

Core responsibilities:

  • Develop a knowledge of care provision and support to customers that includes personal care, medication, accessing food preparation and social opportunities. This involves shadowing and working closely with an experienced or senior care worker.
  • To work in a way that respects the dignity, privacy, property and choice of the people using the service.
  • Actively listen and take account of views, decisions and choices of customers.
  • Understand and comply with all risk assessments and safe working practices.
  • Keep accurate records of the care and support given to customers.
  • Report all customer feedback including compliments and complaints to senior staff.
  • Ensure all information relating to customers is kept secure and confidential.
  • Working in line with Cross Keys Homes safeguarding vulnerable adults procedure, proactively seek to maintain the safety of customers.
  • Respond to calls from customers’ who alert staff via the warden call system (Extra Care Schemes only).

Apprenticeship Scheme:

  • You will gain hands on experience of supporting and delivering care. This will enable you to develop skills to recognise how individuals require different levels of support. In addition you will Page 2 of 4 Action Commitment Excellence Integrity Teamwork develop skills to work as part of a team and develop an understanding around the importance of team work in a care environment. After successfully completing the placement you will have gained the knowledge to enable you to effectively deliver care in a domiciliary/extra care setting. Knowledge around the value of assistive technology in a care setting.

Requirements when in post:

  • By personal example, ensure that you uphold the corporate values and demonstrate the appropriate attitudes in all your dealings with residents and the wider public. Familiarise yourself with Cross Keys Homes’ health and safety policy and procedures, in particular any areas relevant to your own job and ensure you comply with any instructions, requirements and prohibitions at all times. Familiarise yourself with Cross Keys Homes’ Equality and Diversity scheme, dignity at work policies and code of conduct and ensure you comply at all times with the spirit of these policies.

Training that will be provided during the programme:

  • Comprehensive on the job training will be provided as well as any scheduled relevant training courses planned for the period of your placement this will include full completion of the Care Certificate and any additional training deemed beneficial.

    £170.94 to £329.67

  • Working week

    Initially 9.00am – 5.00 pm, however as you develop your care skills the care shifts will work over 7 days a week
