Qualification Overview

The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training is a teaching qualification that will provide learners with a fundamental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer in relation to meeting the needs of learners. It is a nationally recognised qualification which prepares trainee teachers and trainers to teach in a wide range of lifelong learning contexts, such as FE colleges, training providers, sixth form colleges, prisoner education, and the voluntary sector.

Who’s it for?

The qualification can meet the needs of a range of trainee teachers and trainers, including:

  • those who are currently in practice
  • those who have just begun teaching and training and who can meet the practice requirements, including the observed and assessed practice requirements, of the qualification

 

What will I learn?

You will cover 6 mandatory units - each unit starts with a classroom session to set you up with all the information you need to continue learning independently. The subsequent sessions are guided online learning, independent research, and online activities.

  • Planning to Meet the Needs of Learners in Education and Training
  • Delivering Education and Training
  • Assessing Learners in Education and Training
  • Using Resources for Education and Training
  • Effective Partnership Working in the Learning and Teaching Context

 

Where will I learn?

The qualification is delivered through a blended learning approach – a combination of traditional classroom teaching (face-to-face) and online learning/independent study.

  • Classroom – full-day sessions to begin each unit
  • Independent study, reading and research with remote tutor support

You will be provided with links to all the resources you will need to complete the programme.

The course is delivered through our online learning platform where learners have access to the units, assignments and learning materials associated with the course.

 

How will I be assessed?

Learners will be observed for a total of 3 hours during the course to assess the practical elements of the qualification. The course will be assessed by a combination of written assignments, a portfolio of teaching evidence and observation of teaching or training. Simulation of teaching (micro-teaching) is not permitted for this qualification.

Course Eligibility

  • Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience in your vocational or specialist area
  • Minimum of 30 hours solo teaching delivery over the duration of the programme
  • Named mentor who is an experienced, qualified teacher in your specialist area
  • A willingness to continue to develop personal English, maths & ICT skills to a level in-line with the role, reference the Education and Training Foundation’s (2016) Minimum Core Guidance, (2014) Professional Standards, and any subsequent updates
  • Trainees without Level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to qualifying (but would be encouraged to pass these prior to enrolling due to the academic level and requirements of the programme)
  • Subject to successful interview & initial assessment
