Our Specialist Support Teaching and Learning in Schools course provides you with the knowledge and practical skills required to be able to:

Who’s it for?

The qualification can meet the needs of a range of learners, including:

  • those who are looking to work in a teaching assistant role
  • those who are currently working in an infant, junior, special, nursery, secondary or independent school

 

What will I learn?

You will cover 15 units – including guided remote learning and classroom sessions on topics such as Communication and Professional Relationships, Supporting Assessment for Learning and Understanding Child and Young Person Development.

  • Understand How to Safeguard the Wellbeing of Children and Young People
  • Plan and Deliver Learning Activities Under the Direction of a Teacher
  • Support Literacy Development
  • Support Numeracy Development
  • Support Teaching and Learning in a Curriculum Area

 

Where will I learn?

The qualification is delivered through a blended learning approach – a combination of traditional classroom teaching (face-to-face) and online learning/independent study.

  • Online topic-based and monthly classroom sessions tailored to meet your individual needs.
  • There will opportunities for you to drop in for advice, guidance and support.
  • Spend on average 8 hours a week over 12 months (not including placement time)
  • You will have your own expert tutor who will support you through the course.

 

How will I be assessed?

You will create a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your knowledge, skills, and progress. As part of this course you must complete at least 50 hours assisting in the classroom. This can be either paid or voluntary and it is expected that this will last throughout the time on your course.

The cost is £2,225 and may be funded by an Advanced Learner Loan. Find out more here.

The awarding body is Edexcel.

 

Course Notes

  • It is your responsibility to ensure you have secured the relevant setting to meet the requirements of the qualification - paid or voluntary placement within a school setting
  • Learners will be encouraged to gain Level 2 English, maths & ICT if not already held
  • Subject to successful interview & initial assessment
