Apprenticeships for employers
Get a grant (as an SME employer)
You may get a £1,500 apprenticeship grant if:
- you have less than 50 employees
- your apprentice is aged 16 to 24
You can claim support for up to 5 apprentices.
Government Apprenticeship Levy (larger firms)
From August 2017: (still in development)
The rate for the levy will be set at 0.5% of an employer’s pay bill and will be collected via PAYE (HMRC).
Employers will receive an allowance of £15,000. The effect of this allowance is that the levy will only be payable on pay bill in excess of £3,000,000 – employers with a pay bill less than £3,000,000 will not pay anything.
A new digital voucher scheme is being developed by Government to give employers greater control over Apprenticeship funding.
The government scheme is designed to help simplify the funding processes for employers and grant them purchasing power over the government contribution to Apprenticeship funding.
Under the new system, employers will register their details on a system developed by the Skills Funding Agency (SFA) which calculates the discounted rate at which employers can purchase training – this rate could be up to 100% for 16 to 18 year olds. From there, employers will be able to pass on the voucher code to their chosen Apprenticeship training provider who will reclaim the value of the voucher from the SFA, eliminating the need for funding to be given directly to employers.

Training needn’t take people off the job
One of the biggest advantages of vocational training is that it can be delivered on the job and with minimal disruption. Many vocational qualifications such as NVQs (now called QCF qualifications) are an assessment of competency. Our trainer learner mentors will help you staff collect “naturally occurring evidence” to demonstrate that they can perform a particular role. We can also use video and photographic evidence, together with competency based interviews, to asses accreditation of prior learning. In this way we can concentrate training your staff by concentrating on the gaps in their knowledge- giving you a more productive, motivated and efficient workforce.
Train your biggest asset – your people; it’s an investment rather than a cost
Unlock the potential in your people by equipping them with the skills required to keep your business agile.

More and more businesses are appreciating the advantages that apprentices bring. Why? Because an apprentice will address employers’ skills gaps, provide increased motivation to your businesses workforce and ultimately improve productivity and competitiveness.
- Money - You will not incur any costs financially, in terms of advertising or using a recruitment agency. We will place your vacancy free of charge to ensure the most suitable people apply for your position.
- Time - We’ll qualify candidates beforehand and determine their suitability for the position advertised. We will pre-select potential apprentices to ensure the apprentice is ready for you to interview.
- Support - You will not be alone during this process. During the life span of the Apprenticeship, Ixion will continue to work with the apprentice. We’ll frequently meet with the employee to offer support and review their progress.
Gaining the business skills they need
Apprenticeships and Higher Apprenticeships are an excellent way of gaining qualifications and workplace experiences for young people. Young Apprentices earn while they learn, experience a wide range of opportunities and build relationships in the industry sector in which they wish to progress. We provide our apprentices all the learner support they need along their journey. We have compiled a list of frequently asked questions.
